Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon stated on Monday that Ljubljana is closely monitoring the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and is keeping all options open regarding possible sanctions against Milorad Dodik, the President of Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity.

"We’re observing the situation, for now. We will continue to monitor developments. From our position, I can say that all options are on the table," Fajon said following a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg.

Fajon clarified that sanctions against Dodik were not discussed during Monday's meeting, as reported by the Slovenian Press Agency (STA).

"It’s important to respect the rule of law and the independence of courts, and that will guide our actions in the future," the Slovenian diplomat emphasized.

Fajon also noted that Dodik shows no willingness for dialogue and that his statements about Republika Srpska's secession harm Bosnia and Herzegovina's progress toward EU integration.

Germany and Austria imposed sanctions on Dodik and other senior officials of Republika Srpska on April 3, citing "attacks on the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina" as the reason.

Bosnia and Herzegovina's Prosecutor's Office has charged Dodik with undermining the constitutional order after he signed laws passed by the Republika Srpska parliament on February 27. These laws prohibit the activities of the BiH Prosecutor's Office, the BiH Court, the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council, and the BiH Agency for Investigation and Protection within Republika Srpska. The BiH Constitutional Court annulled these laws on March 7.

The controversial legislation was adopted after the BiH Court convicted Dodik on February 26 for failing to comply with decisions made by the High Representative in BiH. He was sentenced to one year in prison and banned from holding office for six years, effective upon the finalization of the verdict.
